Today I went on my first run of the year. I have been an avid runner on and off for about six years. And my biggest achievement was running the Chicago Marathon last year. As I ran along Lake Michigan in Chicago today, I could not help but wonder about the freedoms that can't be taken away from us.
You can run and feel how the wind hits you in the face, yet it does so in a soft, tender way. You bathe in the air that rushes through your lungs, making it all the easier to keep your pace. The sun keeps you warm, awake and motivated. It's mid-March in Chicago, otherwise it would be way too hot to enjoy a late morning run. As you run, you also can enjoy the view of the magnificent Lake, the harbors and the landscape. All calm and tranquil, as to inviting you to look at and contemplate it.
Not being a religious person, I even wondered if, He had meant for everything that surrounds us to be that pleasant and free to enjoy.
Then again, I also thought about the people that have been put behind bars for no reason other than wanting to feed and clothe their families. As I type this, at the local public library, a small crowd is dispersing from an earlier gathering demanding an immediate STOP to the RAIDS!
The hope is still there. Something good will come. For now, enjoy anything and everything that you can. And don't take anything for granted.
i just got back into running, to release some stress. Man i love the feeling of the wind against my face. On certain days, that cool breeze takes me back to better days.
