Dreaming BIG.

I have just watched a multimedia report on the drug cartels in Mexico "Juárez: Children in the Crossfire" on the New York Times[ http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/17/world/americas/17prexy.html?hp].

To the people who oppose passing the DREAM Act, I say, drug cartels and those youth easily recruited are a direct effect of living in poverty and having no education or employment to support yourself. Let's be honest, everyone would love to achieve the same goals in life, have a home, a family, a car and all those fancy things you watch and are sold on t.v. or the internet. Unfortunately, the truth is that there are a lot of young people who cannot afford to go to school and prepare themselves for life, therefore choosing a life of crime. These youth are easily lured by those drug dealers who are not less savage than a beast in the wild. They could not care less for the damage they cause to society. The report mentioned above, focuses more on the youth in Tijuana, Mexico. The really sad part is that children as young as 6 or 7 years old are shown on the video witnessing murders and other tragic and traumatic events. They are the future of that society and already conceptualizing a world filled with chaos.

All us Dreamers are asking is, for an opportunity to become fully accepted members if this society and contribute as best we can. We could not afford to wait to be allowed to go to school, and most of us have chosen a career path to achieve our goals. We made that choice in the hopes that it would suffice to have a decent and prosper future.

Many youth and children depend on the outcome of the DREAM Act. We cannot afford to lose more and more youth to poverty, displacement and a life of crime. Act now! Many, many live and futures depend on it.
