The need to grow and organize.

Having not internet for almost two months made it hard to comment on what's been happening in the immigration reform and Dream Act movement. However, there's something I have been able to notice related to the above mentioned. Online support and activism seems to have shown good results halting orders of deportations of young and successful Dreamers.

First it was Walter Lara , then Taha, after that Herta and now Alonso. But why do we continue to go about this the wrong way??? It seems that we are acting on this issues after they have occurred or simply put, as a small response to a deep issue, that of immigration.

I'm deeply concerned that every week news of another unjust deportation, action alerts and e-mails start coming in urging me to act. I feel frustrated and powerless knowing that ICE a so-called though sheriff are rampantly on the prowl jailing honest and hardworking people. And I also feel upset and disappointed because DHS Secretary Napolitano and President Obama continue to turn a bind eye to these injustices.

The immigration movement has lost a friend in Senator Kennedy (1932-2009)-may he rest in peace. We cannot allow ourselves to continue simply putting small bandages to this huge wound that is the immigration system. These deportations continued to be an everyday reality for many.

As much as I rejoice knowing that the above mentioned Dreamers have been allowed to stay, and have their cases reviewed, I whish for a time where all pro-immigration reform groups would come together and make the final push that is needed. I'm confident that we will continue to have Senator Kennedy's support, even from afar.

Please sing Alonso's on-line petition to stop his deportation.

  1. glad to have you back. I was indeed encouraging to see these deportations stopped. But we need the DREAM act and CIR rather than us patching things one at a time!
