The following paragraph is from the Trail of Dreams website:
"On January 1st, 2010, a small team of brave, passionate young immigrant students from Florida’s Students Working for Equal Rights (SWER) will embark on a 4-month long, 1,500 mile walk – the Trail of Dreams. As they travel through the southeastern United States, this courageous group will be seeking meetings with political and civic leaders, joining in rallies and vigils, and reaching out to the media - galvanizing support for immigration policy reform in communities that might otherwise be without a voice. Their Trail will lead them all the way from Miami’s Freedom Tower to the United States Capitol in Washington D.C., where they will join with thousands of others on in a mass rally for reform on May 1st, 2010. "
Four valiant and extraordinary youth have taken on the huge task of calling attention to the injustice that is our immigration system. Tired of living an American nightmare despite demonstrating the highest moral and civic value both socially and academically, they have decided to embark on this long journey that will lead them to confront justice at its door in Washington, D.C.
Furthermore, another group of exemplary immigrants have also taken upon themselves to stay back home in South Florida fasting indefinitely. Their goal is to call attention to President Obama and Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano to end all raids and prevent more and more families from being separated.
Whether walking or fasting, the actions of these admirable people will resonate across the nation. They all are magnificent examples of individuals this society needs. Their call to action and message to reform immigration once and for all will be heard everywhere! Nothing moves the heart more than people standing up for what they believe in.
Justice is on the move. Be on the lookout for these young heroes coming to a town near you Felipe, Juan, Gaby and Carlos.
Also please keep Francisco, Sebastian, Gaby and anonymous faster in your prayers. They are willing to put their health at risk to gather support for immigration reform and ending deportations.
Here you will find some suggestions to help them in their struggle.
